Dr. Austin Kooba established a presence in the medical community of Santa Rosa, California, and provided OB/GYN care with the Permanente Medical Group for many years. He oversaw teams in delivering diagnosis and treatment for prenatal planning, health checks, and the delivery of healthy babies. Maintaining a family-centered practice, Dr. Austin Kooba oversaw the management of complex issues such as postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, and shoulder dystocia.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kooba became a sought-after educator who emphasized the importance of evidence-based medicine and standardized care. He engaged closely with underserved populations and promoted values of women’s health equity. His responsibilities included an associate clinical professor role at the University of California San Francisco, and he provided a combination of instruction, didactics, and mentoring to family medicine residents at Sutter Health from 2000 to 2014. Dr. Austin Kooba also taught hands-on at his practice in areas such as contraception, menopause, and gynecologic diagnosis and treatment.
As a founding panel member of the Patient and Family Centered Care Committee, Dr. Kooba met with patient advocates regularly and worked to incorporate their suggestions into daily practice. Dr. Austin Kooba was additionally chair of the Wound Infection committee and undertook a monthly analysis of surgical wound infections that had occurred, with a focus on fine-tuning protocols and addressing risk factors.
